iPhone

Ok so i have received my iPhone, the phone that i have been waiting so long for. Like all things in life it is not perfect. There is only a few things that i don't like about the phone, the SMS capabilities of the iPhone. You can't forward a message and the predictive text really sucks. Apart from that the phone is excellent. The touch interface is so responsive, unlike ANY windows mobile phone that i have used. The phone does not hangor show any slow or sluggish response. The Apps that i found on the online store works really nice, the interface is the same throughout most of the Apps. The long wait for this phone has paid of. Well i'm off to play with my iPhone again, will up some more posts regarding the phone as i go allong...

Zooming with my feet...

So i got hold of a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II lens for my Canon 350D and played around a bit, one thing i realized real quick is that there is no zooming, except with your feet. One of the nice things about this lens is that the "F" stop or depth of field can go really low. I took a couple of pics at random things at home, this is a really nice lens to play with and some awesome pics can be taken when fooling around with it.

Browsers, browsers and more browsers...

Ok so i have tried Google Chrome out in Ubuntu using Wine. I could not find anything wrong with Chrome but still prefer Firefox to Chrome, or to any other browser for that matter. I tried Flock for a while for all its social networking capabilities but switched back to Firefox as it just works better for me. Probably because i am used to it. Safari is also not bad but i had a few glitches when i used it using Wine, all though it was just visual effects that did not look good. That said i will give Chrome another try once it is ported to Ubuntu...

...no posts...

OK so the last couple of weeks i have not posted anything to my blog. The reason, or reasons where that i was to busy or tired in the evening to update this blog, i will make an effort to post more and more updates...

Not sure where to start but here goes...

iPhone in SA

Ok so if you are a gadget freak like i am you would also have been following the launch of the iPhone 3G in all the different countries, hoping that SA would be next on the list. Actually wishing that it was already launched. I would really like one if these toys, as it is an all in device and one of if not the best MP3 player. Let's hope that Vodacom is not too stingy and gives us the iPhone at a real affordable price and not some ridiculous price that will make us get some "grey" imports.

Streaming music on my X360 from Ubuntu

360MediaServe is an app that i use to stream music from my Ubuntu machine to my Xbox 360. It works real nice, runs in the background and does not use a lot of resources. Unfortunately i can't post a screen shot as it runs as a process and does not really have a GUI. If you use Ubuntu and have an Xbox 360, give it a shot.

It should also work for PS3

Google Chrome... Better, Faster & Safer...

Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier.

Ok so that is what each and every other browser promises us, especially the "faster and safer" portion. In my opinion there is only one browser that truly works for me and that is Firefox. It is awesome to say the least. There is a ton of addons than you can get for Firefox, but more importantly, for me, is that it is cross platform. You can use it on Windows, Mac and Linux, and for the most part the browser still feels and reacts the same.

The other browsers i tried in the past either sucked or was a mission to get working properly. Safari, you still need to do installations for flash and other little stuff on Windows, on Ubuntu it works with Wine, but still not as well as it should. Opera, i just can't use it, it is slow and it is slow oh and just when you thought it was done loading, something still loads. You just realised that was lunch hour past while trying to load one or to simple pages.

So, let's give Chrome a a try as soon as it is released, i will first try it on Ubuntu and then later on Windows, still need to get my hands on an Apple. The one thing that it's got going for it is that it's cross platform.

I will download it as soon as it is released and give an update on my thoughts on Chrome...

Jaiku... Twitter replacement, let's hope so!!

OK so i finally got an invite for Jaiku, a service that should and hopefully would replace Twitter as people outside of the UK don't get SMS updates anymore. That kinda sucks cause not all of our friends are in one country, let alone the UK.

We're gonna give Jaiku a shot and hopefully we can all be in touch again...
If you need an invite, let me know.
